Vitoli Landscaping put their hillside landscaping skills to the test with this sloped backyard in San Pedro! Providing comprehensive hardscaping and landscaping services including retaining wall construction, strategic plant design and beautiful walkways, we were able to turn an otherwise unusable hillside into a backyard space that is as visually stunning as it is practically useful!
Throughout the project there was effective communication between Vitoli and the clients about their wishes and what is possible with difficult terrain such as this. The astounding results speak for themselves!

Hillside Landscaping
Sloped terrain provides some of the most dramatic, yet difficult, features in a landscape. There are particular challenges to this terrain that requires a specially trained landscapers like ours at Vitoli to get the job done right.
We have a plethora of hardscaping and landscaping solutions for your hillside. Imagine a captivating landscape with majestic trees, expansive vistas, and strategically arranged plantings that naturally guide your gaze towards higher grounds. From installing 150 year-old olive trees transported from Sonoma, to stopping massive boulders at the bottom of a steep hill - we at Vitoli have accomplished the "impossible"!
Plant Design
Plant design landscaping services involve a systematicprocess to create an appealing and sustainable outdoor environment. In order to bring this hillside property to life, we strategically sprinkled drought-resistant plants in and throughout the different layers of this sloped landscape.
Walkways
In order to maximize the functionality of this backyard space, our expert masons laid walkways throughout the layers of the hillside, allowing the homeowners to stroll throughout the entire space. We even added a patio section right in the middle of the hill - talk about being resourceful!
Retaining Walls
Retaining walls are structures built to hold back soil, rock, or other materials, preventing erosion and landslides. In areas like ours, many homes are located on hillsides, and retaining walls are essential to maintaining the stability of the land. They also provide an attractive backdrop for garden beds and can be used to create terraced landscapes.
Retaining walls can be made from a variety of materials, including stone, brick, concrete, or wood. The material you choose will depend on the style of your home and the look you are trying to achieve. For example, we chose wooden retaining walls for this project to give a warm, inviting look.
