Ground-level and aerial tour of the finished Tarzana pool and yard.

Finished rectangular pool and paver deck at the Shvartser residence
Project overview

A rectangular pool that fits the house it belongs to.

This Tarzana property is a single-storey ranch with a wide, level rear yard. The geometry of the house wanted a rectangular pool, so that is what it got: a straight-sided shell with stone coping and a light paver deck that reads as an extension of the rear elevation rather than a separate object in the lawn.

Around it, the yard stays a yard. Lawn was restored on both sides of the deck, the play structure kept its corner, and a removable mesh safety fence was fitted so the pool can be closed off without permanent hardware around the coping.

  • Rectangular pool shell with stone coping and steps.
  • Light paver deck aligned to the house elevation.
  • Removable mesh safety fencing around the full perimeter.
  • Lawn restored and re-graded either side of the pool deck.
  • Side patio and equipment area kept clear of the living space.
